Hey Sunshine Cafe

Hey Sunshine just keeps getting better and better - their newer menu items (we tried the corn fritters and special tornado scramble today) are absolutely delicious. Great prices, lovely atmosphere and service - what more could you want? Oh - also the best Portuguese tarts in all of Melbourne!

Absolutely fabulous little cafe near Macleod station. Perfect to catch up at on a Friday or Saturday morning. The staff are all wonderful, with great coffee and selection of breakfasts or pastries (all baked fresh). Only issue is they don't have pancakes, but you'll never notice with everything available. Definitely worth going to if you're in the area, and worth travelling for.

So far only one visit ... Even though it was very busy, the staff were attentive, very friendly, efficient, despite being busy was fast. I had a great special-order coffee and lovely scrambled eggs with excellent grilled tomatoes. Serving was generous and prices seem like three years ago. Outdoor shade from umbrellas doesn't work very well.

Shame about the negative reviews from the past because they don't at all reflect the experience we had today. Service: Ok, so it's "just" a small cafe but the service was fast, efficient and friendly and the coffee was great. Not to mention the coffee came out within a minute (yes, a minute). I also ordered a takeaway coffee while paying for our meal and had it in my hand barely before I had a chance to tap my card. Can't deny it - that's impressive. Food: Food was yum and brought to us quickly - we had the Chili Scramble and Eggs Benedict. Both were good. Nice to hear our server acknowledge that Eggs Benedict doesn't come with spinach unless requested. Location: Lots of space for our furry friends to sit outside. This is a seemingly minor but welcome detail since some cafes in 2025 still don't get it. Dogs are simply part of our families now. Get used to it. Atmosphere is "lacking" but only because they're on a busy-ish road, so no fault of theirs. Also excellent to see local artists represented by having their works on the wall and available for sale. Lastly, being within a minute or so walk of Rosanna Parklands means you can eat or grab coffee then go walk them both off. For a cafe with one barista and 2 servers, this is great. We'll be back for sure.

Fabulous local cafe, where the service has been spot on from day one. Attention to detail, the little things count and it shows. Delicious coffee every time. The menu has developed from the original & trusty delicious variants of the humble toastie, to a selection of breakfast favourites and now winter soup warmers. The Portuguese tarts are superb, but don't overlook my personal favourite, the chunky cookies! Highly recommended.
